A “Go huge or go home” contest in Tarifa

Full Power Tarifa is a Big Air and Megaloop contest that takes place at the legendary Balneario spot in Tarifa. It brings together the world’s most extreme and innovative kiters under the motto “Go huge or go home”.

The 2025 edition has a competition window in October 2025, with a “green light” announcement for 6–7 October. The Full Power KiteFest Tarifa promises pure adrenaline with Big Air Kite and Megaloop competitions, showcasing impressive tricks and extreme talent.

The event combines sport, music and food in a unique show in Tarifa. Thanks to the privileged location of Balneario, considered Europe’s kitesurfing mecca, the Levante (easterly wind) and the Venturi effect create ideal conditions for jumps above 30 knots. Organisers wait for the perfect day with strong wind to start the heats because the essential requirement is that there are more than 30 knots.

Format and rules

Full Power Tarifa is an open event for professional and amateur riders:

  • Categories: Pro Men (24 riders), Pro 2 Men (12 riders) and Pro Women (12 riders). If registrations for a category are lower, the bracket will be reduced.

  • Heats and attempts: each heat includes 7 attempts with 2 counted tricks; in semi‑finals and finals there may be 8 attempts with 3 counted tricks. A trick list is used, and if a rider repeats the same trick, only the best score counts.

  • Judging criteria: judges look for huge jumps (big air) and assess risk, extremity, explosivity, power loops at the critical moment and board‑offs or rotations performed at the highest point of the manoeuvre. Power is regarded as the most important aspect.

  • Heat duration: about 9 minutes for heats with 3 riders and 12 minutes for heats with 4 riders; transitions of around 3 minutes.

  • Typical race day: the day starts with a crew meeting at 7:00, a skippers’ meeting for riders at 8:00 and first possible start at 8:30.

Location and weather conditions

The contest takes place at Balneario in Tarifa, a spot located near the harbour. Characterised by a sandy bottom and steady winds, Balneario is famous for the Levante: an easterly wind that can exceed 35 knots and create extreme conditions for Big Air. Organisers wait for the perfect day with strong Levante and harness the Venturi effect to reach spectacular heights. The competition is a real spectacle for spectators: huge jumps, megaloops, music and a party atmosphere.

How to follow and participate

Because the event only runs with strong wind, spectators must closely monitor green light announcements. The organisation publishes updates on fullpower‑tarifa.com and social media. The live stream and results will be available online. Riders wishing to participate must submit their video within the stated period (15 March – 1 April) and pay the registration fee.

Tips for travellers

  • Plan ahead: the waiting period can last weeks; make sure to remain flexible and ready to travel to Tarifa at short notice.

  • Proper equipment: bring windbreakers, sunscreen and, if you are a rider, small‑sized kites to handle the Levante winds that can exceed 35 knots.

  • Accommodation and transport: Tarifa is a tourist destination; book hotels or apartments in advance. The nearest airport is Jerez, but connections are also available from Malaga and Seville.

  • Experience the atmosphere: beyond the competition, Full Power Tarifa offers parties, music and local food. Take the opportunity to explore Tarifa’s old town and other beaches in the area.

  • Respect the environment: Balneario is a natural area; follow the rules and leave no litter.
